Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko met with newly elected academicians and corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences 17-06-2022 News

Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko met with newly elected academicians and corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the field of medicine.

In early June, 302 new names entered the lists of the Russian Academy of Sciences. There are many medical scientists among the new academicians and corresponding members. In particular, the rector of USMU Olga Kovtun was elected an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the title of corresponding member was given to professor of USMU Evgeny Beltyukov.

The Minister congratulated the newly elected Academicians and Corresponding Members of the Department of Medical Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences and expressed hope that in the new status, scientists would continue to contribute to the development of medicine.

– The path you have traveled deserves respect, now the main thing is that in the soul of each of you the desire to move forward and reach new heights in Russian and world science does not fade away. It is you who take those steps, make those discoveries that will allow people to live longer and stay healthy,” Mikhail Murashko said.

The minister noted that among the 28 elected academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences, four are the main specialists of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, and five are the main freelance specialists in the federal districts. The combination of science and practice, scientific competencies and organizational skills, according to Mikhail Murashko, will make it possible to clearly set goals and quickly achieve them, and will contribute to the development of healthcare.

— The national development goals set by the President, such as increasing life expectancy to 78 years by 2030, set the general vector for the development of medicine. The challenges of today require us to win quickly, which is impossible without a solid scientific foundation. Today, in terms of mortality, we have returned to the indicators of the pre-pandemic period and even improved them. The level of satisfaction of the population with medical care in Russia has increased, the Minister said.

Mikhail Murashko emphasized that developments in the field of medicine should be practice-oriented. It is no coincidence that one of the 42 government-approved initiatives for the socio-economic development of the country is “Medical Science for Humans”. Among the main tasks of this federal project is the rapid introduction of advanced scientific developments into medical practice.

According to the Minister, the decision of the President to award State Prizes in Science and Technology for 2021 also testifies to the importance of science-intensive sections of medicine. Like last year, two of the three prizes were awarded in the field of medicine. The awards were given to the authors of a large-scale multicomponent project covering research in the field of oncology, epidemiology, oncohematology, immunology and aimed at improving the demographic situation in the country, as well as experimental and theoretical work in the field of studying the proteome – a set of proteins in the human body.

Mikhail Murashko emphasized that the State Prize of Russia is the highest assessment of the importance of medical science for the development of our country, expressed confidence that among those present at the solemn reception on the occasion of the elections to the Russian Academy of Sciences there are applicants worthy of this high award and wished everyone further success in the field of science and good health.
