Ural State Medical University (USMU) will open an admission for residency in medical genetics in 2022, Olga Kovtun, rector o university, said at a press conference at the Ural Inform Center TASS on Tuesday. At the moment, such specialists are not trained in Urals.

Olga Kovtun said «We have started preparing documents for the licensing in medical genetics. ˂…˃ I think that from 2022 academic year we will definitely do this (train genetics in residency – TASS note) ».

The rector noted that the issue of genetic, congenital and hereditary diseases is currently relevant because the health of children who born with serious and rare diseases and help them depends on early diagnosis.

Elena Nikolaeva, chef doctor of clinical and diagnostic center « Maternal and Child Health Care », added, there is a shortage of genetics in Yekaterinburg. Elena Nikolaeva said «There are only three departments in Russias that prepare them: Saint Petersburg, Tomsk and Moscow. ˂…˃ Therefore, I am very pleased with the idea of opening a residency at our academy (USMU – TASS note) ».
