On May 18^th 2022, within the framework of the VII International Scientific and Practical Conference of young scientists and students “Topical issues of modern medical science and healthcare”, the first meeting of a special section “Scientific Initiative of Foreign Students” in a history of Scientific Society of Young Scientists and Students was held. During the conference 10 reports of students from Ecuador, Egypt, Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Cyprus were presented.

The work of the section was organized by the chairman Sarafanova O. and co-chairs from among students Tarasova E. (3rd year) and Moriyo Huertas Daniela (2nd year). The Dean of the International Dean’s Office, Associate Professor T. Smirnova , headed the work of the section. The competition commission included teachers of Russian as a foreign language – Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor Zakiryanova A., Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Sarafanova O., senior lecturer Pervova M., as well as teachers of clinical disciplines — Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Shamshurina E., Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Gavrilov I., assistant Mostovaya E.

The work of the integrated jury made it possible to comprehensively evaluate interdisciplinary reports made at the intersection of medicine, bioethics, cultural studies, linguistics and other humanities. The Commission particularly noted the breadth of the topics presented and the unusual nature of their presentation: reports were heard about the peculiarities of the attitude to the problem of aging in Russia and Ecuador, the causes of aggression in patients, the specifics of graphic expression of emotions in intercultural communication between doctors and patients from Russia and Egypt.

Most of the reports were made in Russian. This opportunity has appeared among students due to the high level of training in Russian as a foreign language, which is provided by the professionalism of Department of Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication teachers.

The winner for the second time was a second year student Konstantinou Mikaella (Cyprus) with a report “Body hygiene: cultural traditions of Cypriots and Russians” (supervisor – Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Sarafanova O.).

The second place was shared by Monebi Oluvamuyiva Oluvanifemi (Nigeria) with the report “Electronic Cigarette: Disease Risk Assessment of Vaping in Different Countries” (“Electronic cigarettes: Assessment of the risk of diseases from vaping in different countries” (supervisor — senior lecturer Pervova M.) and Kuame Kienum Armand (Ivory Coast) with the report “Folk medicine in the cultures of Russia and Ivory Coast” (supervisor — Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Sarafanova O.).

The third place was taken by Hassan Mahmoud Hassan Abdelaal (Egypt), who presented a beautifully designed presentation on the topic “Social networks: the space of social evil or good?” (supervisor — Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, associate Professor Zakiryanova A.).

The Commission particularly noted the presentation of Eladl Ayman Elsayed Mohamed “Decision-making in the practice of a surgeon; assessment of the situation and choice of strategy” as designed in the best way.

Hannaalla Jessica Emil, Saed Ahmed Mohamed and Hassan Mahmoud Hassan Abdelaal received a diploma for the best presentation of a report on “Bronchitis”.
