Governor Evgeny Kuyvashev discussed organization of the vaccination campaign against coronavirus in the Sverdlovsk oblast as well as other mechanisms to counter the spread of infection with health experts. The next working meeting of the governor with representatives of the medical community was held on December 29.

“We must not diminish our focus on routine care in countering the coronavirus. Today we have all the possibilities for this. The next point is a massive vaccination campaign against coronavirus. I would like to hear how you assess the rate of vaccination and its impact on reducing the incidence rate,” Evgeny Kuyvashev addressed the meeting participants.

According to Deputy Governor Pavel Krekov, the start of mass vaccination of residents of the region is scheduled for early 2021. The first batches of Russian injection had arrived to the Middle Urals for vaccination of doctors, teachers and law enforcement officers. 19 vaccination points were deployed in the cities of the Sverdlovsk oblast and fully equipped to store vaccines, and with the start of large-scale vaccination their number is planned to increase up to 76.

Marina Kholmanskikh, Chief Freelance Specialist for Infectious Diseases of the Ministry of Health of the Sverdlovsk Oblast had stressed that physicians have high hopes for the vaccination campaign as a proven and effective way in the fight against the epidemic.

Another topic of the meeting was the use of the Ural antiviral drug Triazavirin to counter the coronavirus. According to the rector of the Ural State Medical University Olga Kovtun, the clinical studies at the City Hospital N 14 were carried out in 2 directions: for the prevention of the disease and for the treatment of a mild form of COVID-19.

“The drug has shown high prophylactic activity, effectiveness and safety. The reports, which would later be sent to Moscow, are now being prepared,” she told.
