Regional youth first aid competition was held on a basis of the Territorial Center for Disaster Medicine. Teams from five cities of the Sverdlovsk region (Yekaterinburg, Asbest, Verkhnyaya Pyshma, Novouralsk and Sysert) attended the competition.
Ural State Medical University (USMU) was represented for the first time by foreign students studying in a bilingual program (Russian and English languages). Students made a team named “Pharaohs” and took master classes in first aid at the university before the competition. The master classes allowed students to demonstrate all necessary skills at a good level within the framework of the competition.
«As a Center for Disaster Medicine, we are engaged in first aid. This direction is very popular today. Earlier students and cadets came to us reluctantly, but now a lot of calls come from those who want to sign up for our courses and we try not to turn anyone away. I believe that every citizen should know the basics of the first aid. Nowadays, we create new programs and try to diversify our studies. Our chief doctor Viktor Popov pays great attention to this area», – said Lyudmila Rogozhina, Deputy Chief Doctor of the Territorial Center for Disaster Medicine for operational work, chief freelance first aid specialist of the Ural Federal District.
«We were well prepared. At the master classes they explained everything in detail and told us how to act in different situations», – noted Ahmed Sami, a student of the Dentistry Faculty at USMU, a member of the “Pharaohs” team.
The competition was organized by the Headquarters of USMU “Medical Volunteers” and the ANСO “Youth Health Center” within the framework of “Have time to help” project, together with a support of the Ministry of Education and Youth Policy in Sverdlovsk region.
