The Head of the Department is the doctor of medical sciences, Professor Chernyadev Sergey Alexandrovich.

In 2004 the Department of surgical diseases of the faculty of general medicine was created after the merger of the departments of surgical diseases № 1 (hospital surgery), and surgical diseases № 2 (faculty surgery).

The head of the department was elected Professor S. A. Chernyadev.
