On the eve of Russian Students Day and Day of Russian Science, the Deputy Governor of the Sverdlovsk region Alexey Shmykov presented awards to the best professors, docents and university lecturers. The awards are given for a great contribution to strengthening the prestige of Higher Ural School and the training valuable for region’s economy specialists.
“By the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin, 2021 was declared as the Year of Science and Technology. It gave an additional impetus to the development of Russia’s scientific and educational potential and marked the beginning of a scientific decade. The development of higher education and systematic support of scientific activities are the main priorities in the work of Sverdlovsk region’s government. Nowadays, our universities in terms of scale and efficiency represent core enterprises. There are 24 state and non-state universities in Yekaterinburg and other towns of the region”, – said Alexey Shmykov.
The award in a direction of “Natural Sciences” in the nomination “Professor of the Year” was presented to Ural State Medical University professor Yulia Mandra. The award in the nomination “Lecturer of the Year” was given to Ivan Gordienko, a professor of USMU.
“This is not my personal victory, but the victory of our Ural Dental School, which is recognized by the Dental Association of Russia as one of the best, it is in the top 3 best dental schools. Also, in 2021 our School was recognized by the International Association of Dental Students as the best in Europe. We will work and continue what we are doing. We already have a lot of talented students who are able to preserve the traditions of medicine and make even more achievements in the name of Ural population’s health”, – said Yulia Mandra.
The Sverdlovsk Region Governor’s Award annually has been awarded since 2012. Laureates in the nomination “Professor of the Year” are paid remuneration in the amount of 200 thousand rubles. The winners in the categories “Docent of the Year” and “Lecturer of the Year” receive 160 thousand and 80 thousand rubles respectively.
“A wonderful tradition formed in the Sverdlovsk region. At the end of the year we honor reputable scientists and young lecturers who are recognized in Russia and abroad. You are all winners today. It is gratifying to see that our professors who receive awards are sitting next to young lecturers, who are candidates of sciences, docents. It’s great that we are giving all the best that has been accumulated by the most powerful scientific and pedagogical potential of the Sverdlovsk region. We really are the region’s leader in this direction”, –said Olga Kovtun, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Sverdlovsk Region Universities Rectors , Rector of the Ural State Medical University.
